On Saturday, May 19, HuRrAh! Fashion & Food benefit for the Arlington-based nonprofit, Helping Restore Ability, includes a silent auction, dinner, and fashion show featuring seven HRA client models, who are North Texans with disabilities, plus five attendants, along with three special guests. Emceed by Hondo, host of “The Front Porch Show” on 99.5 The Wolf.

By raising $50 HRA is able to provide a full day of support for an adult with Alzheimer’s Disease, $250 provides care for a child with Spina Bifida for a full week, $500 provides two weeks of care for a child with Cerebral Palsy, and by raising $1,000 Helping Restore Ability is able to enroll a disabled child or adult in a lifetime of services valued at an average of $650,000 per client.

Founded in Arlington in 1977, Helping Restore Ability (HRA) is the largest non-profit in Texas providing independent living services, currently serving more than 1,000 clients and providing more than two million hours of care last year.

HRA provides care for any disabling condition – physical or intellectual – through its network of more than 2,200 care attendants across the state. Funds raised at HuRrAh! support non-reimbursable client enrollment costs, which run approximately $1,000 per individual.

HRA is the largest independent nonprofit agency in Texas providing statewide services, licensed both as a Personal Assistance Service agency as well as an HCSSA Licensed Home Health Agency. HRA serves all income levels, providing personal attendant services and long-term support to clients of all ages with at least one disabling condition.

The most common diagnoses for which HRA provides care include cerebral palsy, autism, spinal cord injury, developmental delay, down syndrome, multiple sclerosis, dementia, diabetes, quadriplegia and spina bifida.

HRA also delivers caregiver training, as well as connects clients to resources allowing them to continue to live in their home, attend school or hold a job – all while maintaining dignity and independence.
