December 7 — Deck the Halls. 'Tis the season to celebrate winter holidays! Inspiration: Dec. holidays (Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, etc.) and the annual Holiday Exhibition and Tree Decorating Competition.

January 4 — Winnie the Pooh Day. Read stories about the beloved bear from the Hundred Acre Wood and celebrate author A. A. Milne’s birthday. Inspiration: Celebration of Winnie the Pooh Day and anniversary of author Alan Alexander Milne’s birthday (January 18, 1882 –January 31, 1956). Milne is best known for his much loved books about the teddy bear Winnie-the-Pooh and for various poems.

February 1 — Winter Sports. The 2018 Winter Olympic Games are the inspiration for this fun and frosty story time. Inspiration: the XXIII Olympic Winter Games in Pyongyang, South Korea, Feb. 9–25.

March 1 – Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss. Green eggs and ham, anyone?, Join us to celebrate the legendary author and illustrator of such classics as Horton Hears a Who, Cat in the Hat, The Grinch Who Stole Christmas and The Lorax. Inspiration: The birthday of Theodor Seuss Geisel (Dr. Seuss) and celebrating Read Across America Day (March 2)

April 5 – Colors. Let’s hop into spring and slide down a rainbow. Colors and shapes are the theme for this month’s stories and art. Inspiration: Spring season and all current art exhibitions full of colors and shapes at Irving Arts Center — especially the annual Spring Show of Irving ISD Student Art.

May 3 – Moms Are Marvelous. Mothers are the inspiration for this month’s stories and art. Inspiration: Celebrating mom. Mother’s Day is May 13.

June 7 – Camping. Meet around the “campfire” for tales about adventure and fun – indoors and out. Inspiration: National Camping Month & “kick –off” for Irving Arts Center’s annual Summer Art Adventure Camp program

July 5 – On the Beach. It’s summertime! Let’s dive into fun with stories and crafts inspired by the seashore. Inspiration: summer fun.

August 2 – Dog Days of Summer. Beat the heat with stories about cool canine friends. Inspiration: Man’s best friend, canine companions.

September 6 – Jump into Fall. Apples, pumpkins, falling leaves! What’s not to love about the season? Inspiration/Programmatic tie-in: Cooler temperatures.

This venue is wheelchair accessible.
