Help Monarch butterflies take flight this spring! Learn the simple steps to create a monarch waystation for your backyard landscape by joining this program at the Flower Mound Public Library. Recommended for kids 10 and older.

In a 45-minute talk/slideshow, Monarch Watch conservation specialist Carol Clark will discuss why specific habitat is important to the Monarch butterfly, its lifecycle, its magnificent migration through Texas and actions you can take to support the conservation of this threatened butterfly by creating a backyard Monarch Way Station with host plants, nectar plants, water, shelters, wind breaks and places to raise their young caterpillars here in North Texas.

The program covers steps residents can take to help bolster the Monarch population, including what to plant to feed them. To register, email fmpl@flower-mound.com or call 972/874-6165.

The event will include exhibit tables with representatives from Keep Flower Mound Beautiful, Native Plant Society of Texas/Trinity Forks chapter, Denton County Master Gardeners Association, Texas Master Naturalists, Monarch Watch and Monarch Way Station owners from the community, including the local elementary school garden clubs and PTA representatives. These representatives will be available before and after this program to answer questions, provide resources and a free step-by-step guide to start your butterfly garden in North Texas.

Old Settler's Elementary School, Timber Creek Elementary School, Vickery Elementary School, and Coram Deo Academy will be recognized for their Monarch Way Station installations, which are now celebrating milestone 5 and 10-year anniversaries.
